Give the Gift of Hope

  •  Fraud against the elderly, disadvantaged, and vulnerable has escalated as predators steal identities, charge exorbitant interest on loans, and engage in unfair housing or labor practices. Poverty breaks families apart; almost 40% of single moms in Illinois are raising their children in poverty. Our assistance in housing (foreclosure and landlord/tenant issues) help parents looking for a way to keep their children in the only home they have ever known. Although we have added 6 Saturday clinics, the need for assistance is so extensive that client wait (and worry) times can extend up to three weeks as staff and volunteer attorneys do their best to help as many as possible. Some clients drive (or ride the bus) up to 2 hours from their homes to have access to legal aid, because so few facilities exist throughout the suburbs.

The people we help only pay a $20 fee to encourage their “buy-in” and ownership of the process.  The majority of our support comes from the generous support of individuals, businesses, private foundations and churches.

Ways to Give:

BECOME A MONTHLY SPONSOR:  $10 a month will help educate 80 low income families on their legal responsibilities and rights. Just $25 a month will assist 2 elderly victims of consumer fraud with one on one legal counseling. $50 a month can help 3 single moms who are victims of domestic violence prepare documents for their court case, ensuring stability for their children. $100 a month can provide 1 victim of human trafficking extended legal representation, empowering them on their road to recovery.
